Horror Film: Youtube

One of my group members has a Youtube acount and we have uploaded are Horror Opening to it: Her is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_kF769KDpw.

Burning the Preliminary task & Horror Movie to DVD.

My group has completed everything we need to now the blog is up to date and we have finished are Horror movie and preliminary task and have burned it onto the DVD using iDVD. We have also finished are evaluation which we will also be uploading to the blog in a PowerPoint tomorrow. 

Editing On The Macs

In the previous lesson we started to edit are footage. We mainly aimed on shortening it and picking out what we wanted and getting rid of any footage we didn't need. This took the whole of the lesson as we had lots of footage to cut out. Next lesson we will continue editing more funereally. Also we got introduced to are evalation part fo the coursework. 

Uploading Our Footage

Today in Media me and my partner uploaded are footage of the cameras memory card and onto the Macs.
We exported the footage using Quicktime and it is now in Final Cut ready to be edited next lesson. We have 6.05 Min's & 24 Clips altogether but we need to shorten it into a draft for 2 Min's for are teacher to look at.

Advancing On With Our Footage

Today we continued on with are filming and it was a lot more success full day. We have got all of are footage captured and ready to be uploaded onto the Macs for editing tomorrow. We decided also to get rid of the previous footage from a day earlier as the continity was not right as it was different lighting in the day.

First Day Of Filming

On Sunday 13th March we got all of are equipment ready and my group went to are setting up Wicksteed park to start are filming. We got quite a bit of filming done but then it got to dark to carry on as the cameras were not picking up any light. So we packed up and organised to go the next day to finish.

Two Possible Story Opening's

Opening 1.

Three friends go on a fishing holiday to Canada. Their all alone in the wilderness with only a mysterious creature in the deeps of the waters for company. Two friends go of to get firewood and return to just a empty camp fire and ruble from where their friend has been dragged to maybe his death.

Opening 2.

A group of friends go on a camping holiday where they will be staying in a log cabin owned by one of their parents. Before they get to their log cabin they come across a mysterious abandoned car left in the woods but their is no car tracks or roads into the forest. " How did it get their" ...

Are group has made the decision to go with Opening 1. as we believe it gives us a great opportunity  to create a tense and scary opening for are teen audience viewers.

Our opening two minutes of our horror film is based on horror films, we need to find information on the film classification and what is allowed and suitable for 15 certified films.
I used the British Board of Film Classifications website. www.bbfc.co.uk/

 The information below is taken from the website about the 15 classification:

Discrimination - The work as a whole must not approve disriminatory language or behaviour.

Drugs - Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily accessible and highly dangerous substances such as aerosols is likely to be unacceptable.

Horror - Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic or sexualised.

Imitable behaviour - Dangerous behaviour (e.g. self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be copied.

Language - There may be a frequent use of strong language. The strongest language may be acceptable if it is justified by context. Aggressive or repeated use of strong language may not be accepted.

Nudity and Sex - Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail. Also sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail. Strong references may not be acceptable unless it is justified by context.   

Violence - Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. Strongest gory images and strong sadistic or sexualised violence are unlikely to be accepted.

Theme - All themes are allowed providing that they are appropriate for 15 year olds

3rd November 2010

Today in the lesson my partner in my group was not there but i was still able to perform some jobs. Are teacher gave us 5 main projects to work on about are teen horror and gave us specific time in which all these should be done by the 17th November. Also we were then showed previous teen horror movies from past year 12's and we analysed briefly what worked and didn't work in the films.

Pitching Our Opening Idea

On November 1st all the groups had to prepare a little speech to the teacher. Me and Aaron presented are idea to him while we was being recorded and after we got feedback whether or not it was a good idea which would work or wether it needed work on. Gladly are idea was accepted and we could then move on to think about are film opening.

Improving Our Speaches

Today in the lesson we were concentrating on are speeches which we will be performing to are examiner while it is being filmed. My group has completed a brief synopsis of are film but more still needs to be added.

The Pitch Of Our Horror Movie

Today in lesson we were taught what the process is of making films. We realised the amount of financial backing is needed even for low shoe stringed budgets which is still high amounts of cash. Also how much time and effort it is to organise dates, settings, props and castings at the right times to produce the film. It is split into three main categories: Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production.


After we then got told we would have to pitch are idea of are teen horror films to are chief examiner on November 1st on which should include a working title and brief details about the storyline of the film.

Horror Film : Wrong Turn

On the  6th October, we looked at the article about the opening of 'The Shining', a classic horror film starring Jack Nicholson. We then got shown a film called Wrong Turn produced in 2003 which is a teen horror movie. We were given a task to pick out key conventions like audio and visual elements which made it a good start to the film.


There are many different visual elements used in Wrong Turn. At the start of the film there is a very high birds eye view of the settings which emphasises to the audience that these people are in the middle of nowhere and are going to be very vunerable. Also the camera is panning across the top of the trees and gets faster and faster as they get nearer the location of the teen couple which creates a slight mood of tension and creates a atmosphere of danger. Also when this is going on there are audio elements going on to add to the atmosphere, there is freaky and off putting music going and and the instruments used are mainly stringed instruments which creates a high pitched spooky sound, also added is a high tempo drumming noise to increase the tension of the opening scene.

Transfering Data to the Macs

Today in media we had 2 hours to complete two task. One was to import are captured recordings onto the Macs and the other was after this to edit are prelim task together. Me and Aaron and a few others had to still film are prelim task so for the first hour we were Doing that and we got it completed. The second task didn't go very well because we were unable to log onto the Macs and wasn't able to edit are recorded film so we had to go to the I.T technicians and try and get it sorted out, unfortunately is wasn't possible that lesson and we will have to catch up with are editing another day.

Watching Horror Movies

Today in the lesson we were watching the start of some horror movies. Jeepers Creepers 1 and 2 also we watched Dead Earth. We were told to watch out for conventions that would make the audience now and be frightened of the horror film.
